GRASSROOTS is an art/music lovers and artists’ mecca in Yokohama. We are devastatingly impacted by Covid-19. We have prepared some returns that even those who live far away can enjoy. We would like to protect this place where everyone can gather up, so please help us! [Introduction]
I’m Tadanobu Samata, a manager of GRASSROOTS. I’ve been working in Yokohama for nearly 25 years in the food and beverage industry, surrounded by music and art. I’ve been running this bar for 20 years now with the support of those seniors that have helped me in Yokohama culture.
The wonderful music and art in Yokohama culture inspired me, and fortunately I’ve always been surrounded by many artists/creators who create such great music and art. That’s why I wanted to create a place where these artists/creators could perform their shows at, and I wanted to create an environment where more people could easily come into contact with such wonderful things. This is how GRASSROOTS opened here.
Because of this difficult situation, we had to temporarily close and now we are open for lunch, but we were very hesitant to make such decisions. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I could or should continue the business. However, when I looked around, our beloved customers as well as creators and artists were there, giving me support.
Then I noticed I can’t shut this place down and created this project. To keep music and art culture in Yokohama and pass it to the next generation, please help us.
Thank you for reading. As I wrote at the beginning, I started GRASSROOTS to create a place where great music and art can be performed and everyone can see and feel them. But when it came to this kind of difficult situation, I realised the place itself is not GRASSROOTS, actually those artists and the people who gather are GRASSROOTS. We would like to keep this place for everyone, so please help us out.
